Welcome to the NPCA's Get Involved portal!An exciting project is underway to enhance access to the Cave Springs Conservation Area, while maintaining important natural and cultural aspects of the site.In the past few years, the NPCA has seen a significant increase in visitors and a greater demand for access to its properties, including Cave Springs. This conservation area is particularly popular because it is nestled into the Niagara Escarpment, a critical regional geological feature that maintains local plant and animal biodiversity. The area also provides spectacular views of Lake Ontario and supports excellent passive recreation opportunities like hiking and birdwatching. Access to this area is by the Bruce Trail only. There are no parking or visitor amenities leading to illegal parking and unsafe access to the site.In 2016, a Cave Springs Conservation Area management plan was drafted after an extensive public engagement exercise. Building on this work, a major deliverable of this new project is to review and update this management plan to ensure it is aligned with the NPCA’s strategic plan and other relevant policies. Cave Springs Enhancement Project

Welcome to the NPCA&#39;s Get Involved portal!The NPCA will soon begin a project to enhance the Rockway Conservation Area in St. Catharines. This project will improve the visitor experience through increased parking and new recreational features such as accessible trail systems, wayfinding, bicycle racks, and educational signage.Rockway Conservation Area (Rockway) is considered one of the Niagara Peninsula watershed&rsquo;s hidden gems, as it is part of the Niagara Escarpment, with significant ecological features, flora, fauna, and recreational assets.This year, the NPCA acquired a 1.2-acre property adjacent to Rockway, on the north side of Regional Road 69. This parcel of land includes a valley, watercourse, and waterfall running along the west perimeter. Rockway Conservation Area Enhancement Project

The Wainfleet Bog was historically mined for peat, which resulted in significant adverse impacts to this rare and unique ecosystem. The two largest landowners of the Wainfleet Bog natural area are the NPCA and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), with NPCA retaining the largest land holding.The Wainfleet Bog Conservation Area was acquired in 1995 by the NPCA and is the largest of its conservation areas at approximately 2,000 acres (800 hectares). The Wainfleet Bog is a provincially significant wetland and is the largest least disturbed bog remaining within the Carolinian region of Ontario. This rare ecosystem provides habitat to a variety of unique plants and animals, as well as a suite of recreational uses.
