The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is developing a Conservation Area Strategy (CA Strategy) to guide the delivery and enhancement of the programs and services it offers on its conservation areas, and inform future policies and management plans.

This process began in early September and NPCA sought to engage its watershed community through a variety of mediums including an online survey and a Public Information Centre on September 24.

Building on the feedback received to date, NPCA completed a 'Draft Conservation Area Strategy' which includes:

  • Objectives to inform NPCA's decision making related to the lands it owns and controls.
  • Identification of the mandatory and non-mandatory programs and services offered on these lands, including the sources of financing.
  • An assessment of how these NPCA lands augment any natural heritage located within its area of jurisdiction; and how they integrate with other provincially or municipally owned lands or other publicly accessible lands and trails within NPCA's jurisdiction.
  • The establishment of land use categories for the purpose of classifying lands in NPCA’s land inventory.
  • A process for the periodic review and updating of the CA Strategy.

The Conservation Area Strategy is a requirement of Ontario Regulation 686/21 and is to be completed by December 31, 2024.

As part of your land securement strategy, please consider the parts of the Thundering Waters Forest that cannot be developed due to the presence of natural features. This area is in the built up area of Niagara Falls and many residents would enjoy walking in this area.
